For Photographers
What is the Underwater Creatives Academy (UWCA)?
The Underwater Creatives Academy, often referred to as UWCA, is the dedicated education and professional development arm of Water Bear Photography, built from the ground up to serve the unique needs of underwater portrait photographers around the world. The Academy hosts immersive in-person workshops at our Gainesville studio and at select international destinations, offering hands-on training in everything from safety and lighting to business strategy and editing. Beyond workshops, UWCA provides a growing library of on-demand online courses that allow photographers to learn at their own pace, a lifetime professional membership program that unlocks ongoing mentorship and exclusive resources, a 'Find a Pro' directory that helps certified photographers connect with clients in their region, and a private member forum where graduates share work, ask questions, and build lasting professional relationships.
Every resource within the Academy is specifically designed for the underwater portrait niche, rather than being generic photography education adapted for water. Members also receive early access to new course releases, discounted rates on in-person workshops, and invitations to exclusive retreats and creative collaborations. Featured online courses include underwater pricing and sales, editing workflows for Lightroom and Photoshop, business systems for booking luxury clients, and an introductory primer for photographers brand new to the genre.
The Academy is led by Kimber and supported by a rotating roster of guest instructors who are recognized leaders in underwater portraiture worldwide. UWCA was created because, for years, there was no comprehensive educational resource specifically for this niche, and many talented photographers were forced to figure it out alone through trial and error. Today, the Academy serves photographers across more than two dozen countries and continues to grow with every new resource we release.
