For Models

What rates should I charge as an underwater model?

Underwater modeling rates typically run noticeably higher than equivalent land-based modeling rates because the work requires specialized skill, physical training, and tolerance for genuinely demanding conditions. Beginning underwater models with a small portfolio commonly start in the range of seventy-five to one hundred and fifty US dollars per hour, while experienced editorial-level models routinely command two hundred to five hundred dollars or more per hour.

Full-day commercial bookings for advertising or brand campaigns often range from twelve hundred to four thousand dollars or higher, particularly when usage rights are extensive. Always quote separately for usage rights — a single social media post is dramatically different from a multi-year international advertising campaign. Travel time, location fees, wetsuit rental, and overtime should each be addressed transparently in your rate card.

Personal projects and TFP shoots have a place in early-career development, but consistently undervaluing your time damages the entire underwater modeling community over the long term. Research what comparable models in your region charge, and adjust upward as your portfolio, recognition, and reliability grow. Maintaining a clear written rate sheet and a simple contract communicates immediate professionalism to every client who reaches out.
