For Models

What is the difference between pool and natural-spring underwater modeling?

Pool shoots offer maximum control over water temperature, depth, visibility, and lighting, making them ideal for tightly choreographed editorial concepts and consistent reproducible results. Natural-spring shoots in Florida's freshwater springs offer breathtaking turquoise water, dramatic shafts of natural sunlight, and an organic earthy backdrop that no studio environment can fully replicate.

Spring water sits at a constant 72 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, which is noticeably cooler than a heated pool and requires more careful thermal planning for the model. Spring shoots also involve currents, fish, fluctuating sunlight, and other natural variables that demand greater adaptability from the model. From a portfolio perspective, having both pool-controlled studio work and natural-spring environmental imagery shows a casting director or client your full range.

Spring shoots typically require longer travel days, basic snorkeling gear, and additional safety personnel, all of which can affect rates and scheduling. Many underwater models prefer the meditative beauty of natural springs while still doing the majority of their commercial bookings in controlled pool environments. Both formats deserve a dedicated section in a complete underwater modeling portfolio.
