For Models
How do I handle my period during an underwater photoshoot?
Working in the water during your period is completely fine and very common among professional underwater models, requiring only a small amount of preparation. The most reliable solution is a high-quality menstrual cup such as a DivaCup, Saalt, or Lunette, which creates a watertight seal and can be safely worn for many hours.
Tampons are an acceptable alternative, but be aware that the string can occasionally be visible underwater, so trim it carefully and tuck it well out of frame. Pads are not suitable for underwater work because they absorb water and become ineffective. Track your cycle so you can communicate openly with your photographer in advance, but please do not feel obligated to cancel a shoot solely because you are menstruating.
Hormonal fluctuations may slightly affect bloating, energy, and comfort during certain cycle phases, so plan extra rest breaks if needed. Showering thoroughly before entering the pool is standard hygiene for every model regardless of cycle, and our facility provides private rinse-off areas for any quick adjustments between dives. This is a normal part of professional underwater modeling, and a respectful studio environment treats it with discretion and zero judgment.
