For Clients
Can I do an underwater photoshoot while pregnant?
Yes, underwater maternity photoshoots are not only possible but are widely considered one of the most physically comfortable forms of maternity portraiture available today. The buoyancy of the water gently lifts the weight of your belly off your lower back, hips, and pelvic floor, which is why so many expecting mothers describe their session as the first time in weeks they felt truly weightless. We typically recommend booking your session between weeks 28 and 36 of pregnancy, when the bump is beautifully visible yet you still have the energy and mobility to enjoy the experience.
Before booking, we ask that you obtain written clearance from your obstetrician or midwife, particularly if you have been classified as a high-risk pregnancy. Our heated studio pool is maintained at a soothing temperature so your body never has to fight the cold, and we keep sessions shorter — usually around forty-five to sixty minutes in the water — to prevent fatigue. A trained safety swimmer is always within arm's reach, and we use a tethered floatation device between poses so you can rest effortlessly at the surface.
We also recommend eating a light meal and hydrating well in the two hours before your shoot to keep blood sugar stable. Many of our maternity clients return years later for first-birthday underwater portraits with the same child, creating a deeply meaningful visual continuity. The resulting imagery captures the strength, softness, and almost otherworldly beauty of pregnancy in a way that traditional studio maternity sessions simply cannot replicate.
